Nice Work, Bone Daddy - My Life in Halloweens

Watching: The Nightmare Before Christmas

Happy Halloween-a-ween!

I have noticed that most of my Halloweens (Halloween being my 2nd favorite holiday) have been different since I went to college:

1.) From high-school up until Freshman year of college I had been trick-or-treating with my sisters, cousins and THEIR friends (because mine in high-school were apparently too cool to get free candy...what what? :P) In those days I was a Bunny (age 3), Dorothy (various years), a Werewolf (age 10), Kagome from Inu-Yasha (age 16), and a random snake monster guy...(age 12) and a Witch (one of those years), Sally from the Nightmare Before Christmas...and a bunch of other things that I can't remember :P

2.) Freshman year of college I trick-or-treated as Groucho Marx but it was kind of lame for various reasons...one being that students from the neighboring high-school would play pranks on the college students and vice-versa. That's when I decided that trick-or-treating was done for me.

3.) Sophomore year of college I worked as a Resident Adviser and always worked on Wednesdays. Well, Halloween was on a Wednesday that night...I will never forget. That was the first time in my whole life that I was not able to celebrate Halloween ON Halloween night. Still, I dressed up as the Bride of Frankenstein, and I handed out candy at my desk and I dealt with puking freshmen. That night I watched The Nightmare Before Christmas and The Creature from the Black Lagoon with my then boy-friend who came to visit me that night.

4.) Junior year of college I was studying in England for a few months and we celebrated Halloween in good 'ol Canterbury, England. My costume was last minute but clever...I was a Zombie British school-girl. We pre-gamed at our apartments then we walked to the Jolly Sailor pub and drank snake bites, ate candy and danced on tables. That was a great Halloween fo sho ;)

5.) Senior year of college was AMAZING. My good friend, Kate, came to visit for a whole week and we watched scary movies to the point of a snuggle fest every night for fear of being stabbed to death by psycho, goblin Asians with needles... O_o and other scary things... Did I mention that we slept with my Halloween lights on all night too? We also performed The Rocky Horror Show at my college (I played Janet Weiss) and on Halloween night we went to Albert's to sing and dance karaoke. I was dressed as Stephen King's Carrie.

6.) My sister India and I were able to dress up and go to Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party at the Magic Kingdom and trick-or-treat, eat junk food, scare small children and watch the fireworks, parade and skanky Villians Show. That was an amazing bonding moment for me and my sister that we both will never forget. Now this year for Halloween I will be working again but at least I will be at the Magic Kingdom working the Halloween parades. It will be interesting because I will be seeing all kinds of amazing costumes! yay! and who knows what could happen the whole night...having a different Halloween every year is important I think...if you keep it the same then you'll get bored with it. So, I am glad mine have been different these past few years. Oh yes...and I was a werewolf ;)

HAPPY ALL HALLOW'S EVE!!

Captain EO (featuring George Lucas, Francis Ford Coppola and...Mikey Jackson)

So I had a pretty wild day yesterday! I went to Epcot in Disney and celebrated the 15th Food & Wine Festival. It was nice to smell all of the food and see all of the different kinds of drinks that they had. I didn't drink because, well, I simply didn't feel like it plus it was far too expensive. BUT I did have lunch! I went to the Greece booth and got Spanakopita and I went to the Charcuterie & Cheese cart to get some cheese fondue with croutons and roasted peppers. I then proceeded to the Ireland booth to top it off with warm chocolate lava cake with Baily's Irish cream ganache. MMMMMM so good! Afterwords I went to England and sat in the Rose Garden and studied for the GRE as I drank Twinning's Iced Tea and listened to "Hey Jude" play in the background by a live band. I then stopped by France but couldn't stay for very long because I became too nostalgic :( so I moved to Japan where I bought a Little Red Riding Hood stationary set as well as witnessed a wedding proposal at the Japanese Pearl Counter! So kawaii!!
I also decided that I would go on a couple of rides that I hadn't been on in a awhile: Honey, I Shrunk the Audience and Imagination with Figment (which had been changed...for the better, I might add!). When I made my way over there I realized that Honey was gone! It had been replaced by a 1986 experiment created by George Lucas and Francis Ford Coppola. A 3D science fiction musical starring Michael Jackson - It was called Captain EO.

Wild, right? That's what I thought too! So, I thought, I gotta give this a try! I got in the theater and put on my 3D glasses and noticed that I was surrounded by families with very small kids AND 30-something year old cult followers of this "Captain EO". Ladies and Gentlemen...what you are about to witness is the 3D cult classic that I watched only a few hours ago in Walt Disney's Epcot Center (without the 3D of course). There is no describing this 20 minute film...you just have to watch it yourself:

Part 1

Part 2

OH MY GOSH!!!!!!! I couldn't believe what was happening in front of me! It was The Dark Crystal  meets The Wiz or whatever. I loved it! The next paycheck I get I'm spending my hard earned monies on Captain EO merch.

Love & Peace!

FCKH8 & Planet Smoothie = LOVE

Watching: Kellie and Sean Play Mario Race Car

Here's a little video that my friend Shanna posted on another one of our friend's facebook:

CLICK ME FOR VIDEO!

I'm so in love with it! Pass it on to your friends if you agree!

In other news...the roomies and I have a place we call heaven here in Orlando. It's called Planet Smoothie and it is absolutely amazing! They have the best smoothies ever created. Not too watery and not too thick either. Not only are they full of yummy goodness (whether you are in the mood for something healthy or something calorie-filled) but they also have special "powder" thrown into the mix. This powder can be fiber blast or fat burner or an energy blast or even an immunity blast!! No matter how you are feeling that day you can get a powder blast that can help you through the day. The smoothies also have awesome names such as Yo' Adriane!, Werewolf, Java the Nut, Razmanian Devil, Frozen Goat, Thelma & Louise and Screamsicle. My favorite? The Lunar Lemonade with a fat burner blast. <3 mmmmm!

Love & Peace!

BUGS!!!

Listening to: Love, You Didn't Do Right By Me - Rosemary Clooney

Hey guys sorry about my update fail :/ I have been busy with work, studying and socializing with my new friends! Speaking of new friends...here is my friend Janice's blog! (Year Of Adventure). Janice has amazing narration and really funny stories! Enjoy!

So I have a lot to cover in the past few...uh....weeks.

First of all I broke my camera :( I was at a club and some how it got smashed...so now I have nothing. Luckily my roomies are generous and they let me borrow their cameras when I go on my little adventures by myself.

Just recently we found a few little buggy-like critters in our apartment at Vista Way. A few weeks ago I found one little flea on my foot. I tried to catch it and drown it...but to no avail. I figured a flea was kinda important to talk about so I let my roomies know that I had found one. Kare was hilarious...

"But I thought fleas were only on animals...we don't have animals," she said.

"Well, fleas don't just hang out on animals," I had said. "They bite humans too."

Kare's eyes widened with disbelief, "They BITE????"

We then got into a huge discussion on what fleas are capable of and just how nasty they are. Kare hyperventilated.  So that was the flea incident (oh and we never found another one after that...) and there was also the cockroach.

Now, I wasn't here for the this one but I believe this is how it went down: Last week Kellie and Kare were sitting in the living room when they saw a huge black...thing...crawling around in the kitchen. Kellie yelp and Kare kept yelling "Kill it! Kill it!" but the cockroach got away. Kare was so afraid that the little guy would come back (and with friends) that she ran to the store and bought Roach Killer. After spraying the whole kitchen as well as outside our door, Kare asked if it would actually kill the roach. Bis and I looked at the picture advertised on the Roach Killer can:

"That bug on the can looks dead..." I said. "I think it will kill them."

Oh yes, and I told you that Kare also sprayed outside, yes? well, Florida is infested with Love Bugs humping each other all over the place and after she had sprayed and we opened our front door *Psycho Music* :O DEAD LOVE BUGS EVERYWHERE!!! It was a good 'ol graveyard outside our front door. "I feel like I have to say a prayer every time I walk out here," Kare said.

More adventures soon, guys! Love and Peace!

SO PROUD

Listening to: Cocorosie - Animals

Okay...so I have always had this weird issue with my weight...I have never been fully comfortable in my own skin. Now, on the other hand, is a different story. From all of the healthy eating habits and the walking that I have been doing lately here in Disney I have shed a few...and I feel great! I feel good about myself now and more importantly, I feel better on the inside :)

Sooo, whoooohoooo <3

Parade Control & Turnstiles!

Watching: A CrAzY commercial about...Snuggies? O_o

Sooooo yesterday at work was somewhat hilarious....well, it is now at least. I wasn't feeling too great yesterday for reasons not unknown to me (girly stuff ya know). So I was prepared for it and also prepared for any situations that would happen while in WDW (or so I thought).

Okay, to start...I have 2 costumes. One is for turnstiles at the front gate of the MK and that costume is a large, striped shirt with orange, pink and light blue in it and it comes with light blue...shorts? I guess you can call them shorts. Then there is the parade control uniform or "PAC" as we call it. The PAC uniform consists of a pair of navy blue pants and vest and a white short sleeve shirt with a weird little dog-eared tie in front. Well, there are some days when you are working both jobs in the same day. I had heard different ways on what to do: wear one outfit and then change later, wear one outfit the whole day, wear the outfit that fits the job you work the most hours in that day but make sure you wear the navy one for the nighttime parades...yadda yadda yadda!!

So, I went with my instinct and I wore the light blue striped one and brought the navy blue one with me. After the turnstiles (which I'm still surprised people still don't know how to use) I went to my coordinator and asked when she wanted me to change. "The events that followed are kind of a blur to me...she began to explain something like..."you should have just worn your PAC outfit/why didn't you know that? and work at the exit right now and I will type in a task for you then that will give you time to change and if you are late to the PAC meeting I will know where you are." I was really, very confused. Task? What? I began to ask her what that meant (I just wanted to do the right thing) and she said the exact same thing...but slower...like I was stupid!! :-/ whatever...so I just did what she asked me and left to change when I found it appropriate. I was a little late for the PAC meeting but was able to get there in time for my assignment: "Castle 1".
The "Castle 1" assignment means that my position was right in front of Cinderella's Castle and all I really had to do was play "Mickey Says" (Simon) with the kids until it was time to get ready for the parade. Suddenly, it started to DOWN POUR. It was awful because I did not have a poncho! I kept a positive attitude and tried to let guests know that we will have an announcement whether or not the parade would continue. Finally, the announcement came on throughout the park and all it said was that the parade had been "delayed" ! I was shocked! And then it started to thunder and lightening...still, the parade was just "delayed". Finally, about 30 minutes later...the parade (which was an electric light parade) was finally canceled. I was soaked to the bone and shivering. I already had a cold...so that was unfortunate. I worked the exit until I was allowed to leave and I was so happy that I had packed a change of clothes...except my underwear was wet...so I had the most attractive marks on my body :-/
I also had a bunch of dry costumes that I had picked up earlier that day. So I had to not only carry back my wet clothes (including my wet sneakers) but I also had to carry back a stack of dry costumes! Ug. When I was finally able to get on the bus back to my apartment, the bus was full :( so I was going to have to sit on the wet floor BUT my very good friend Mike from good 'ol Cazenovia was there and said that I could have his seat! :D He sat almost right behind me with another friend on the edge of the seat. I sat in Mike's seat and right next to his roommate...who was a really sweet guy! I felt bad because while we were talking I couldn't remember why I liked modern British Literature.... *blush* (Orwell and Doyle!!!!) *cough* anyway...I got home at 12:00am and made myself foods and talked with my roomie Alee for about two hours and watched Alien 3.

Sigh...it was a very interesting night.

*mug shot*

2 Weeks in Yensid

Watching: The Office

(note: code words to be on the efas edis) ;-)

So I have been in Yensid for approximately 2 weeks. There have been many ups but there have also been the occasional downs. All in all though, Yensid is definitely the happiest place on earth for a reason. The people who work here are the heart, soul and backbone of this company. I don't think it would be as successful as this if it weren't for the service that we are taught to give. Seriously, our classes and trainers have to teach us how to be happy...

Now, I am normally a "happy" person...so when they told us certain things like, "wave to people" or "smile" or "say, 'You're welcome'" or "look people in the eye when they are speaking to you" it all sounded very, I don't know...obvious(?) to me. That's probably why I hit it off with my Main Gate trainer, Pattie so well. Let me explain Pattie before I go any further:

[PS: some Yensid-like spoilers below...this might ruin the magic for some little ones!]

Pattie is a short, thin and wrinkly 70 year old (71 in a few days) woman. She is from New Orleans, LA originally and was most certainly a Southern Belle at one point in her life. She has a son who is going to school to become an artist and she has a daughter who is a lawyer for Congressmen at the White House (she almost served President Obama...but he chose someone else I guess). Pattie has been working for Yensid Dlrow for 5 years and has been a trainer for 2 years. She is so good apparently, that they are sending her all over the world (most recently Hawaii) to train people into becoming great Yensid Cast Members (Cast Members = employees in Yensid language). I was fortunate enough to have her one-on-one as my trainer. Pattie is a heavy smoker by the way...so on our 10 minute breaks we would have during training she and I would take them backstage, behind the walls of the MK. Oddly enough, the smoking area is right next to the doors to where the parade comes through so many of the actors/dancers sit there and smoke as well. It was cool to talk with most of them about their experiences but half the time they are on their phones texting...so that's when I turn to Pattie and hear stories about the old South and raccoon hunting and whatever else.

Anyway, Pattie is great and very informal about the history of Yensid.

I love my job. When I am not telling silly tourists how to place their finger on the biometrics scanner or stopping foreigners from stealing others tickets OR keeping other Yensid Cast Members from sneaking people in...(whew!) I am giving out Cinderella stickers to little girls who are coming to the MK for the first time, I am giving high-fours ;-) to little boys dressed as pirates while I wear my Mickey glove at the exit, I am sprinkling pixie dust on kids who are having a hard day...or to a little girl who was just adopted from another country and her new parents are bringing her to the MK (she was so cute by the way). Some of my fellow Cast Members (but most certainly not all) are a little...testy...but try to look over them and focus on my goals for the day. Tomorrow I start training for  Parade Control then I will be an official Yensid Cast Member.

I love going into the Parks for free too! I never thought it would be so much fun to walk around by yourself! I've been having a great time finding presents for everyone. It's also nice because I can just play all day! Go on rides, shop and lose weight. Yup. I went down one pant size since I've been here. It's kind of really amazing ;-) and I cannot stress enough how awesome my roomies are. They are simply the best. Some of us went to Daytona Beach for the day and just chilled. We had a blast swimming in the ocean and talking about our jobs. <3

Well, that's all for now! TTFN! Ta ta for now!
